DIN 7985 Pan Head Pozidriv Machine Screw Technical Datasheet

DIN 7985 Pan Head Pozidriv Machine Screws are metric threaded machine screws featuring a rounded pan head and a Pozidriv (Type Z) cross recess. They are widely used for fastening metal components, electrical equipment, machinery, control panels, furniture hardware, and general industrial assemblies where a neat appearance and reliable tightening are required.

The Pozidriv recess provides improved torque transmission compared to conventional Phillips drives, reducing cam-out and enabling more secure installation. Although DIN 7985 has been superseded by ISO 7045, the DIN designation continues to be extensively specified in engineering drawings and industrial procurement. DIN 7985 covers both Phillips (Type H) and Pozidriv (Type Z) drive variants.

  • Widely accepted international standard.
  • Suitable for manual and automated assembly.
  • Compatible with a wide range of industrial applications.

Is DIN 7985 still an active standard?

DIN 7985 has been officially withdrawn and replaced by u003cstrongu003eISO 7045u003c/strongu003e, although DIN 7985 remains widely used in engineering drawings and purchasing specifications.

What is the difference between Phillips and Pozidriv?

Pozidriv features additional ribs between the main slots, allowing greater torque transmission and reducing screwdriver slip (cam-out) compared to Phillips. Both variants were covered under DIN 7985.

Are DIN 7985 and ISO 7045 interchangeable?

For most engineering applications, yes. ISO 7045 is the international successor to DIN 7985, with only minor dimensional differences for a few sizes.

What materials are commonly available?

Carbon steel, stainless steel A2 (304), stainless steel A4 (316), brass, and titanium Grades 2 and 5 are commonly available.

Can Phillips screwdrivers be used on Pozidriv screws?

It is not recommended. A proper Pozidriv screwdriver provides better engagement, minimizes damage to the recess, and delivers higher tightening torque.

Are these screws fully threaded?

Yes. Standard DIN 7985 screws are fully threaded.

Can DIN 7985 screws be used outdoors?

Yes, when manufactured from stainless steel A2, A4, or titanium. Carbon steel screws should have an appropriate protective coating for outdoor use.

What industries commonly use DIN 7985 screws?

They are widely used in electrical equipment, machinery, furniture, sheet metal fabrication, control panels, instrumentation, and general engineering assemblies.
