ISO 7380-1 Hex Socket Button Head Screw Technical Datasheet
ISO 7380-1 Hex Socket Button Head Screws are metric threaded fasteners featuring a low-profile, domed button head with an internal hexagon (Allen) drive. Their smooth rounded head offers an attractive appearance while minimizing protrusion, making them ideal for machinery, electronics, automation equipment, sheet metal assemblies, furniture, and architectural applications.
Unlike socket head cap screws (ISO 4762), ISO 7380-1 screws have a reduced head height and therefore reduced loadability due to head design. They are intended where moderate tightening torque, improved aesthetics, and operator safety are more important than maximum preload. The current ISO 7380-1 standard applies to metric coarse threads from M3 to M16.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is ISO 7380-1?
ISO 7380-1 specifies metric hex socket button head screws with a rounded button head and internal hexagon drive. It defines dimensions and characteristics for screws with reduced loadability due to the head design.
What is the difference between ISO 7380-1 and ISO 4762?
ISO 4762 socket head cap screws have a taller cylindrical head and are designed for full load capacity. ISO 7380-1 screws have a lower domed button head that offers improved appearance and lower profile but reduced tensile loadability.
What is the difference between ISO 7380-1 and ISO 7380-2?
ISO 7380-1 has a standard button head, while ISO 7380-2 incorporates an integral collar (flange) beneath the head to provide a larger bearing surface.
Why are ISO 7380-1 screws marked differently?
Steel property classes are marked with a leading zero (for example, 010.9) to indicate the screw has reduced loadability because of the button head geometry.
Are ISO 7380-1 screws fully threaded?
Yes. Standard ISO 7380-1 screws are generally supplied with full metric coarse threads.
What materials are available?
Common materials include stainless steel A2-70, stainless steel A4-70, alloy steel, and titanium.
Are these suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. Stainless steel A2 and especially A4 provide excellent corrosion resistance for outdoor and marine environments.
Can ISO 7380-1 replace socket head cap screws?
Only where the required clamp load and tightening torque are within the reduced loadability limits of ISO 7380-1. For high-preload joints, ISO 4762 socket head cap screws are generally preferred.
