Rivet Bushing Technical Datasheet
Product Overview
Rivet Bushings are permanently installed threaded inserts designed to provide strong, reusable internal threads in thin sheet metal where conventional tapping is not feasible. Compared to Mini Rivet Bushings, they feature a larger body diameter and flange, enabling higher load capacity, improved pull-out strength, and greater resistance to torque in demanding industrial applications.
Installed by mechanically peening the projecting shank after insertion, Rivet Bushings form a permanent mechanical lock with the sheet material. The serrated flange embeds into the surface during installation to prevent rotation, ensuring reliable fastening even under repeated assembly and maintenance.
Manufactured in zinc-plated steel and stainless steel, Mini Rivet Bushings are widely used in electrical enclosures, electronic equipment, telecommunications, instrumentation, HVAC systems, industrial machinery, and precision sheet metal fabrications.

Installation
- Select the correct rivet bushing length based on the sheet thickness. Refer to the dimensional table to determine the recommended hole diameter, then punch or drill the hole to the specified size.
- Insert the rivet bushing into the prepared hole, ensuring the spigot passes completely through the sheet. The flange must sit flush against the sheet surface and the bushing must be aligned perpendicular to the material to ensure accurate thread positioning after installation.
- Using a profiled installation punch, apply sufficient pressure to peen the protruding spigot over the sheet. This forms a secure mechanical lock while allowing the serrations beneath the flange to embed into the sheet material, providing excellent resistance to rotation and ensuring a permanent installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Rivet Bushing?
A Rivet Bushing is a compact threaded insert that provides permanent, reusable internal threads in thin sheet metal where installation space is limited.
How is a Rivet Bushing different from a Mini Rivet Bushing?
A standard Rivet Bushing has a larger body diameter, larger flange, and is typically available in larger thread sizes. It is intended for applications requiring higher load capacity and greater resistance to pull-out and torque.
Can Rivet Bushings be installed in stainless steel sheets?
Yes. They can be installed in stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminium sheets using the appropriate installation tooling and recommended hole dimensions.
Are the threads reusable?
Yes. Once installed, Rivet Bushings provide durable internal threads designed for repeated assembly and disassembly without damaging the parent material.
What materials are available?
Rivet Bushings are commonly available in zinc-plated steel and stainless steel.
What industries use Rivet Bushings?
They are widely used in electrical enclosures, electronics, telecommunications, industrial automation, HVAC equipment, medical devices, and precision sheet metal fabrication.
